San Fran the Golden Gate to Aussie travellers

first_imgMore Australian travellers are ticking the Golden Gate Bridge off their ‘Bucket List’, with Aussies now the third largest market into the American city.  Trailing behind the European and Asian markets, according to the Travel and Tourism Industries latest figures, up to 228,000 Australian visitors landed in San Francisco last year, a 22 percent increase on the prior year.Making up to 20 percent of San Fran’s total visitors, San Francisco Travel president Joe D’Alessandro said the city was a “desirable destination” for Aussies in both the leisure and business sectors.“We are extremely fortunate to have been the host city for the U.S. Open in June of this year and look forward to welcoming the America’s Cup World Series later this summer and the America’s Cup in 2013, which will attract even more visitors to San Francisco,” he added.Figures also found Aussies were spending more last year, with a 9.8 percent increase in visitor spend to up to $8.46 billion compared to the prior year.
